Shed your worries with PlanDAT
How it works
Customers looking at building a shed generally just have a storage solution requirement but often find it difficult to know where to start and what the approval process looks like. Plan DAT is the place to start.
In NSW there are 3 different approval pathways that can be taken (on most sites). They all have different places where you need to find the requirements and these requirements change based on your property size and property zoning. There are also additional planning maps that need to be considered for placement of your shed as it could be affected by Bush fire, Terrestrial Bio Diversity (sensitive Flora and fauna areas) etc.
Confused?
Exactly – it is confusing. However, that’s where PlanDAT provides help. After searching your property address, PlanDAT goes and finds out your properly size, lot information, Property zone and then goes and finds all of the shed specific planning information related to your property only.
The guide summarizes the key items required to allow you to start planning your shed. It provides a comparison table of the different approval pathways you can choose and what measurement you can work to including:
- Maximum building size (m2)
- Minimum distances off boundaries
- Maximum heights permissible (from natural ground to apex/ridge)
- Maximum excavation allowed
It then grabs any maps that should be considered for placement of your shed.
PlanDAT aims to simplify, provide clarity to give you confidence to make well informed decisions.
Once you have your report, and have decided on which approval pathway works best for you (typical approval timings are also provided); you can then take your PlanDAT report to your chosen shed supplier to get quotes. If you then need someone to get plans and approvals underway we have added details to the end of the report to help to get you underway.
